Six recent blog posts on A2Knetwork.org
In case you don't often visit http://A2Knetwork.org or subscribe to
its feed, here are eight interesting and/or important posts from its
front page that you may have missed:
- Consumers
International at the sixth Internet Governance Forum
CI will be represented at no fewer than nine meetings or
workshops at the upcoming Internet Governance Forum at the end
of this month, including a workshop to launch our "Consumer
Representation in the Information Society" campaign. Even if you
can't be in Nairobi, you can attend most of these events
remotely.
- Final version of A2K revisions to UN Guidelines
settled after public comments
The public comment period for our A2K amendments to the UN
Guidelines for Consumer Protection closed last week. This post
describes the changes that were made to the amendments based on
the comments received, and outlines what lies ahead.
- Consumer-ownable Downloads
When you buy a digital book, movie or album, you expect to own
it - but you don't. Consumers International is supporting the
development of a new IEEE standard for technology that would
enable you to "own" digital content, so that it can be
anonymously shared, resold and more. Read this post to find out
more about this important proposal.
- #Consumo,
#Piratería y #CiudadaníaDigital
Only visible on the Spanish language version of our website
is this report of a recent event hosted by our Spanish member
Colectivo Ecologista Jalisco at which CI was invited to speak.
- Global
Congress on Intellectual Property and the Public Interest
The Spanish event followed on from a major world congress of
public interest IP activists and academics, resulting in the
signature of a Washington Declaration on Intellectual Property
and the Public Interest. Follow the link to that declaration in
this blog post, and add your own signature.
- Campaign
for removal of customs duty on imported newsprint in Zambia
This blog post describes the campaign that the Zambian Consumer
Association will be undertaking to improve the affordability of
printed materials in Zambia, as the successful recipient of one
of our 2011 grants to support campaigns against public policies
that negatively affect A2K.
- Access
to knowledge for community development in public libraries
Here our partners eIFL (Electronic Information for
Libraries) describe their workshop to be held on day 2 of the
IGF in Nairobi, which is one of the few workshops to be held
this year with an access to knowledge theme.
- Campaign to
promote Open Source Software to consumers
Finally our Malaysian member FOMCA describes its upcoming
campaign on open source software, as the other successful
recipient of one of our 2011 grants to members for national
campaigning work.
I hope that you will take the time to read through some of the above
posts in full if you haven't already done so. Please also remember
that as a member of our network, you too are free to post entries to
our site! Simply log in to our website A2Knetwork.org, then click
"Create content", then "Blog entry".
