Opportunity to participate in "Do Not Track" working group at W3C
If there are any members who are interested in online privacy, and
particularly the tracking of consumer behaviour by advertisers, you
may be interested in participating in a working group of the World
Wide Web Consortium (W3C) that is addressing this issue: see its
website at http://www.w3.org/2011/tracking-protection/.
Jeff Chester from the Center for Digital Democracy writes, "I spoke
to WC3 representatives Thomas Roessler and Aleecia McDonald about
ensuring greater consumer and privacy NGO participation in the Do
Not Track standards process. The goal is to encourage greater
representation from NGOs, including groups outside of the US/EU
area.
Several of you have already expressed interest in participating. I
urge you to contact both Thomas and Aleecia directly to explore your
organization initially participating as an "expert" group (which
means various fees should be waived). In addition, there is also a
"community group" set up where those of us who don't want to
participate day to day can be involved and have some way to
contribute. I hope that through Consumers International, we can
identify groups working in Asia-Pacific, South America,
Africa/Mid-East, etc to also be involved. We must ensure that this
process reflects the diversity of the internet itself."
If you are interested, the contact email addresses are below.
