International Symposium of Public Policies for Digital Collections

 

The digitization of Brazilian Cultural Collections has become a high priority issue, asking for an analysis about the limits imposed by the current Copyright Law, the opportunities created by new technologies, the existing standards, as well as the strategies to create an effective network between organizations and existing projects.

Access to Knowledge at the Internet Governance Forum

Consumers International and the African Copyright and A2K Project (ACA2K) this week held a successful workshop looking at the Global State of Copyright and Access to Knowledge at the 2009 meeting of the multi-stakeholder United Nations Internet Governance Forum in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt. The session was moderated by Dr Bassem Awad from ACA2K, who is also Chief Judge at the Egyptian Ministry of Justice.

Business leaders to debate the importance of upholding consumers interests in IP

Consumers International, with the support of UFC-Que Choisir and La Quadrature du Net, is holding a Business Roundtable on the Consumer Interest in IPRs on the afternoon of 22 October (just before the TACD's second Paris Accord meeting), to bring together representatives of the entertainment, publishing, information technology and communications industries to discuss and debate the role that consumers' interests play in their decision-making

Report on CI's Latin American regional meeting on A2K

The second of CI's regional meetings on A2K took place on 30 and 31 March in Santiago, Chile. The meeting was conducted in English and Spanish, through the use of simultaneous interpretation. Its participants included twenty representatives of CI members and like-minded NGOs from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Peru, as well as a special guest from the UK.
